Here are some instructions that may help you determine if your antivirus or firewall software is blocking the APPS program and causing your connection issues. Please note that these instructions serve as guidelines only and may not be directly applicable. Every version of software may be slightly different.

Instructions are provided for the following major antivirus vendors

Norton Antivirus

If you have antivirus software from Norton Antivirus, please try the instructions below to make sure it is not blocking the APPS program.

To set the Personal Firewall to allow or block connections from specific programs, do the following:

  1. Start Norton Internet Security
  2. On the Norton Internet Security Tab, click Settings
  3. Click Personal Firewall, and then click Configure
  4. In the left pane, click Trust Control
  5. In the right pane, click Trusted tab
  6. Click Add...
  7. In the Enter Trusted Computer dialog box, type the internet address of the network computer
  8. Click OK, and then click OK again

McAfee

If you have antivirus software from McAfee, please try the instructions below to make sure it is not blocking the APPS program.

To set the Personal Firewall to allow or block connections from specific programs, do the following:

  1. Start McAfee SecurityCenter
  2. On the McAfee SecurityCenter pane, click Internet & Network, then click Configure
  3. On the Internet & Network Configuration pane, under Firewall protection is enabled, click Advanced
  4. On the Firewall pane, click Trusted and Banned IPs
  5. On the Trusted and Banned IPs pane, select Trusted IP Addresses, and then click add
  6. Under Add Trusted IP Address Rule, do one of the following:
    1. Select Single IP Address, and then enter the IP address
    2. Select IP Address Range, and then enter the starting and ending IP addresses in the From IP Address and To IP Address boxes
  7. If a system services uses Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), you can add the folloing IP address range:192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255
  8. Optionally, select Rule expires in, and enter the number of days to enforce the rule
  9. Optionally, type a description for the rule
  10. Click OK
  11. On the Trusted and Banned IPs dialog, click Yes to confirm

Trend Micro

If you have antivirus software from Trend Micro, please try the instructions below to make sure it is not blocking the APPS program.

To set the Personal Firewall to allow or block connections from specific programs, do the following:

  1. Open the Trend Micro Internet Security main console by doing any of the following:
    1. Click Start > Programs or All Programs > Trend Micro Internet Security > Trend Micro Internet Security.
    2. Double-click the Trend Micro Internet Security icon on the lower right corner of your screen.
  2. Click Home Network & Firewall Controls on the left panel.
  3. Under Personal Firewall, click Settings.
  4. On the Personal Firewall Settings screen, make sure there is a checkmark in the Activate the Personal Firewall checkbox.
  5. Click Advanced Settings.
  6. Click the Program Control tab.

CA Antivirus

CA anti virus has an autoscan option that may cause speed problems. It scans all files and 'processes' that run (see the windows task manager). To get an acceptable speed do the following:

  1. Double click the heartbeat monitor in the windows task bar near the clock
  2. On the left side, click the e-trust antivirus shield icon
  3. Click the Settings tab
  4. Click real-time settings
  5. Click filters
  6. Click exclude by process
  7. Click Add
  8. Enter BM0000P0.EXE and any other APPS utility that is running at startup
  9. Click OK
  10. Click Apply
